Wandering Through Kashmir: A Journey of Senses

Kashmir isn’t just a place you visit — it’s a destination you feel.

Kashmir had been on my travel list for the longest time. I’ll admit—I hesitated. Its popularity as a tourist destination made me wonder if it had lost some of its charm. But when I finally visited, I was genuinely surprised. It wasn’t just the breathtaking landscapes that stole my heart—it was the quiet dignity and warmth of the people that truly completed the experience.

The Beginning

We began our journey at Nagin Lake, a serene alternative to the bustling Dal Lake. Nestled just off its more famous counterpart, Nagin offers peaceful waters, charming houseboats, and traditional Kashmiri dinners that make for the perfect welcome.

Srinagar

A couple of days exploring Srinagar is a must. Indulge in the grand Wazwan feast, and don’t leave without trying the local walnut fudge, a delightful treat found only here. From Srinagar, take a scenic day trip to Sonmarg—skip the pony rides and hike up to the glacier instead. Pack a picnic, slow down, and just breathe in the pristine beauty.

Next stop: Gulmarg.

Take the famed Gondola ride to over 14,000 ft for panoramic views that even stretch to the border. En route to Pahalgam, explore the ancient Avantipur ruins, remnants of 9th-century temple architecture.

The Orchards

If you’re traveling during apple season, don’t miss the chance to visit an orchard—fresh apple juice straight from the source is unforgettable.

Pahalgam

In Pahalgam, try the local trout, enjoy a leisurely walk through pine-covered trails, browse the handicraft shops, and simply let the calm of the valley sink in.

Shikara

We wrapped up our journey with a final night in Srinagar, staying at a stunning lakeside property. A sunset shikara ride was the perfect farewell.

This 6-night, 7-day itinerary is ideal for first-time visitors to Kashmir. But if you’re looking to venture off the beaten path, we know just the places.
